Correction and Apology to Stella and Family

My computer is having a serious glitch so my correction will be brief.

In my last post, I introduced our neighbor Stella, Calli’s canine friend from sound the corner. I described her as a Great Dane. I mistakenly thought someone identified her as such.

Today, I found out she is a purebred Irish Wolfhound. While she is a large dog, she did not strike me as the size I expected of an Irish Wolfhound. Although about 160 lbs., her “big” brother weighs 238 lbs. and is a few inches taller than she. BIG!

Irish Wolfhounds are the tallest of all AKC breeds. They are an ancient breed of sight hounds, with males as tall as 32” at the shoulder. In ancient times, they were bred from indigenous large dogs of Britain with Middle Eastern coursing hounds to hunt large, aggressive Irish Elk and wolves, both extinct now in Ireland. Interestingly, the current breed is sweet-tempered, affectionate, not excessively active, dignified, alert yet not aggressive. Unfortunately, these lovely dogs do not have log lifespans, ranging on average from 6-10 years.

Stella, we love you and apologize for the error. 🩷
